Sony has released system software updates for both the PlayStation 4 and PS5.

Kicking things off with the PS5, we have Version: 25.02-11.00.00. This version has made it “simpler to view details about activities”, Sony said in the update notes.

Unicode 16.0 emojis are now also supported on PS5, meaning they can now be used in messages.

You can check out the full PS5 changelog below, as laid out by Sony itself.

  • We’ve made it simpler to view details about activities.
  • Activity details are now fully displayed on cards.
  • Potential spoilers will still be hidden.
  • Unicode 16.0 emojis are now supported. You can use them in your messages.
  • When you set the parental controls’ restriction level to Late Teens or Older, Communication and User-Generated Content will now default to Restrict. If you have previously set the level to Late Teens or Older, your previous settings will not be affected and it will be shown as Customize.
  • We’ve improved system software performance and stability.
  • We’ve improved the messages and usability on some screens.

Meanwhile, while we may now be in the PS5 generation, Sony is still issuing updates for PS4.

The latest PS4 update, system software update 12.50, is more typical of the stability updates Sony likes releasing to patch various exploits used to modify or jailbreak consoles. The patch notes are short and very to the point.

“We’ve improved the messages and usability on some screens,” reads a post on PlayStation.com.

Earlier this month, Sony also released an update for its PS3, a console which is now old enough to buy itself a pint down at the pub here in the UK.

Earlier this year, Sony announced a UK PlayStation rental scheme, from £11/month. Those interested in going down the lease route can choose a 12, 24, or 36-month term contract, although there is also a rolling monthly option if that’s more your thing.
