Clips of an unfinished version of A Minecraft Movie have started making the rounds online.

These clips are getting shared far and wide, with some lauding “the unfinished CGI version” of A Minecraft Movie as “the funniest” film they’ve ever laid eyes on.

As for those clips, they look more akin to something from the PlayStation 2 era of gaming, rather than a newly released blockbuster movie. In fact, they are even more angular than the final product.

The first clip shows Steve – played in the film by Jack Black – welcoming viewers to Steve’s World, which includes the actor dancing with some blocky pandas and cows. You can check it out below.

A second clip shows an air chase in A Minecraft Movie, with Steve along with Jason Momoa’s Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison tumbling to the ground before landing into a puddle of water in (relative) safety.

Again, you can watch it for yourself below.

Replies to both clips include quips like “this looks like a fever dream”, or “it’s so chaotic, I love it! I’d pay to watch this version too” and “the unfinished CGI of the minecraft movie is lowkey hilarious”.

Not that the studio needs viewers to pay to see this version. The finished cinematic release of A Minecraft Movie has done rather well for itself, generating $301m worldwide on its opening weekend.

Not seen it for yourself yet, but are curious? Be sure to check out Eurogamer’s A Minecraft Movie review, where Christian Donlan praises the cast and the film’s Minecraft iconography, but laments the lack of “spirit”.
