Non-for-profit organisation PlanetPlay is launching its Green Games Showcase at Summer Game Fest on June 7, 2025.

Hosted by games journalist and regular GamesIndustry.biz contributor Will Freeman, the showcase will spotlight a selection of games highlighting environmental issues and sustainability.

Participating studio and platform partners include Amazon Games, Lockwood Publishing, Sharkmob, Team17, Netspeak Games, and Wicked Saints Studios.

PlanetPlay also aims to raise $300,000 by June 30, 2025, to plant 50,000 trees in Timor-Leste to support reforestation and restoration in partnership with local nonprofit WithOneSeed.

PlanetPlay ambassador Ian Livingston will join Freeman during the livestream for a Q&A session on how games “can inspire meaningful climate action and drive real-world impact.”

Livingstone was announced as one of three new PlanetPlay ambassadors last month, alongside actress Briana Evigan and Formula E world champion Pascal Wehrlein.

“This is more than just a showcase, it’s a rallying cry,” said PlanetPlay CEO Rhea Loucas. “The games community is one of the most passionate and creative forces on the planet.

“By bringing green gaming to the Summer Game Fest stage, right as the world marks World Environment Day, we’re proving that play can be powerful, and that environmental impact can be entertaining, inclusive, and inspiring.”

Earlier this month, PlanetPlay released the latest results of its Play2Act survey conducted in collaboration with the United Nations Development program.

It found that nearly 50% of games have reduced their environmental impact after playing titles spotlighting climate change issues.
