Silent Hill: Townfall developer No Code rebrands as Screen Burn

Observation developer No Code has undergone a rebrand, with the Scottish studio now called Screen Burn.

The decade-old studio, founded in Glasgow, initially began as a two-person team. However, the studio felt a new name was needed that reflected the evolution of the team and its step into a “new era.”

“We’re not who we were in 2015,” Jon McKellan, No Code’s Founder and Creative Director, wrote in the press release announcement. “We’ve grown and changed. For a start, we have coders now. So, we needed a name that instead reflects what’s always been at the heart of the games themselves: the imperfect feel of old technology and the lasting impact of a story that stays with you long after the credits roll.”

The name Screen Burn is a nod to the studio’s current project, Silent Hill: Townfall, and aims to capture the “ghost of an image burned into an old CRT screen” as well as a game’s ability to imprint on your memory.

Konami announced Silent Hill: Townfall during a stream back in October 2022, alongside Bloober Team’s (now released) Silent Hill 2 remake, Silent Hill F, and Ascension.

Following the announcement, which featured a trailer but few details or that all-important release date, news on Silent Hill: Townfall’s development went somewhat quiet, with some fans fearing the project had been cancelled.

In response to concerns, co-publisher Annapurna Interactive posted an apology to X in October 2024 – just weeks after mass walkouts at the publisher – reassuring fans that the next entry in the iconic horror franchise is still in development at No Code (now Screen Burn).
