Digital Foundry has announced it is parting ways with IGN Entertainment and going independent.

In its latest podcast episode, the publication’s editor and founder Richard Leadbetter explained that he and Eurogamer founder Rupert Loman-West bought roughly half of its outstanding shares following an offer from IGN.

“Digital Foundry has parted ways with IGN and we’ve bought their shareholding of the business,” said Leadbetter. “What this means is that from now on, all aspects of Digital Foundry are decided upon by Digital Foundry.

Now fully independent, it will be funded by its Patreon supporter program.

IGN Entertainment acquired Gamer Network’s portfolio of digital brands in May 2024, including Digital Foundry.

“Digital Foundry is a brand that we have immense admiration for, and we’re incredibly proud of the work they’ve done over the years, including during their time with IGN Entertainment,” said IGN Entertainment president Yael Prough.

“Richard Leadbetter and [the] team have built something truly special, and we’re thrilled to see them return to their independent roots. We wish them the absolute best and will be cheering them on as they continue to grow.”

IGN Entertainment is the parent company of GamesIndustry.biz.
