Tencent makes changes to Light of Motiram Steam page amidst Sony lawsuit

Tencent has made several changes to Light of Motiram’s Steam page, following allegations from Sony that its open-world adventure is a “slavish clone” of Guerrilla Games’ Horizon series.

As spotted by The Game Post, Tencent has quietly made numerous changes to Light of Motiram’s Steam page over the last week.

Alongside the addition of a Q4 2027 release window for Light of Motiram, the game’s key art (which depicted a character similar to Horizon’s Aloy) has been replaced, with the new artwork now showing two animal-like robots: a bird and a pig.

Several of the game’s(Horizon-like)screenshots have also been replaced with new images.

The biggest change, however, is to Light of Motiram’s description, which previously read:

“In a world overrun by colossal machines, explore the vast open world, build your base of operations, advance technology, train Mechanimals, and take on formidable bosses. Starting from the primitive age, forge a new path of development. Defy the machination, survive with mechanimals.”

The description now makes the game sound less similar to Horizon, removing mentions of “mechanimals” and “colossal machines,” and reads:

“Make smart use of everything around you to stay alive and face off against formidable bosses, every step is fraught with danger and requires courage. Only by overcoming the challenges of survival can you carve out a place for yourself in this unforgiving land.”

Polaris Quest’s Light of Motiram was announced in November last year, but Horizon fans were quick to point out that the post-apocalyptic survival crafting adventure seemed to bear a glaring resemblance to Guerrilla Games’ hit series.

Sony thought so, too, and filed a copyright lawsuit against Polaris Quest’s parent company, Tencent, in July, calling the game a “slavish clone” of the Horizon series, which it described as “among its most valuable intellectual property.”

“SIE is far from alone in recognizing the striking similarities that Tencent’s new Light of Motiram game shares with Horizon,” Sony wrote in its lawsuit.

“Upon viewing the gameplay trailer, Internet users and gaming journalists agreed: Light of Motiram was a knock-off of Horizon Zero Dawn, Horizon Forbidden West, and other games in the Horizon Franchise—the similarities are glaringly and immediately obvious.”

GamesIndustry.biz has reached out to Tencent for further comment on this story.
