A fond farewell to Katharine Castle

Hey everyone, I’m very sorry to say that this week is Katharine Castle’s last at Eurogamer – and in games journalism as a whole! – as she’s heading off into the world of game development.

A veteran journalist and critic, Katharine joined us last year after a long stint at our sister publication Rock Paper Shotgun, including nearly three years as its editor-in-chief. In her time at Eurogamer, Katharine has thrown herself into everything – from exhaustive game guides to reviews of some of last year’s biggest games – and made a huge mark.

From day one, it was clear how well Katharine understands games, and how best to communicate that passion to others, including those lucky enough to be her colleagues. She also makes up a great Google spreadsheet – and Eurogamer’s ancient site schedule document has now never looked better.

Katharine has an undying love of indies, and has taken charge of Eurogamer’s now-regular Wishlisted series that highlights the best recommendations from each Steam Fest. Her exhaustive knowledge of Nintendo, meanwhile, was clear in her report from Kyoto on the Nintendo Museum, which she travelled to before the attraction publicly opened its doors.

In short, Katharine will be greatly missed and leaves some big shoes to fill. For now, here’s some farewell words from her – please join me in thanking her and wishing her the very best for what’s next.

“Farewell dear readers! My time at Eurogamer – and in games journalism more broadly – has sadly come to an end. I’m really going to miss this incredible team, and it will be very strange indeed not to be writing about cool new video games every day anymore. I know I’ve only been here a very short while in the site’s esteemed 25-year history, but it’s been a real privilege to be even the tiniest part of this place, and to get to know you through some of our chats in the comments. You’re a smart bunch, and it’s been a pleasure writing for you all these past 12 months. Now, I’ll be joining your ranks as a fellow reader, and I can’t wait to see what the Eurogamer team get up to in the months and years ahead. Thanks again for reading, and see you in the comments!” – Katharine
