The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered has welcomed nine million players since its release.

After a fair smattering of leaks and rumours, Oblivion Remastered was finally revealed and launched back in April, giving us all a spruced up version of Elder Scrolls 4. On Oblivion Remastered’s debut, Bethesda offered some clarification on why its new release is a remaster, and not a full fat remake. “We never wanted to remake it – but remaster it – where the original game was there as you remember playing it, but seen through today’s technology,” it said.

And, that approach has evidently paid off, with the studio today celebrating nine million players, though it is worth noting that Oblivion also released on Xbox’s Game Pass service, likely boosting its numbers. The game is also available on PC and PlayStation.

“To everyone who emerged as a hero of Kvatch, mastered Arch-Mage, rose to Grand Champion, banished the Blackwood Company, gallivanted as the Gray Fox, and listened to the Night,” the Bethesda Game Studios account shared on social media, “thank you for sharing in our worlds.”

Accompanying this post, the Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered team shared a cartoon of the game’s adoring fan with the number nine styled into his quiff.

Oblivion was remade by port developer Virtuos’ Paris studio, in collaboration with Bethesda. Soon after the game made its stealthy debut, over 100 mods were made available for Oblivion Remastered, even though Bethesda said it won’t offer any official mod support.
