New accelerator Spawn Point has launched, and has already secured its first cohort of studios.

Based in Trondheim, Norway, the program is intended to support emerging independent developers by providing guidance, expert advice, and the opportunity to network with others in the industry.

The two-year experimental window of Spawn Point was “almost fully” back with public funding, and resulted in five studios receiving support.

These include Lugn Games, Tooth Games, Shadowfay Games, Graybox Software, and HiPhi Games.

Since last October, these studios have been attending monthly workshops and sessions led by industry experts including Jen MacLean (Dragon Snacks Games CEO), Susie McVeth (Raw Fury CMO), Ivan Carillo (Joystiq Ventures), and Jon Grande (Amazon Games head of product).

“We started Spawn Point because Norwegian developers are incredibly talented, but the industry needs stronger support structures to thrive through both the highs and the lows,” said Spawn Point project manager Linn Søvig.

“We want Spawn Point to be a place where developers come to re-energise, challenge their assumptions, and get market-savvy feedback.

“Whether that means doubling down on a current game project or pivoting toward work-for-hire or services – we help them make informed, strategic choices.”
