The Legend of Zelda live-action movie will star actors Bo Bragason and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Zelda and Link respectively.

The news was revealed on Nintendo’s social media channels by series creator Shigeru Miyamoto, who commented he was “very much looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen”.

The film, directed by Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ Wes Ball, will release on May 7, 2027. A short delay from its original March 2027 release date was revealed last month.

Bragason notably starred in last year’s popular BBC crime drama The Jetty, with another main cast credit in Disney+ family show Renegade Nell.

Ainsworth featured in Netflix horror drama The Haunting of Bly Manor, and also voiced Pinocchio in Disney+’s 2022 live-action version of the classic animation.

Sony Pictures is distributing the film, with Miyamoto and Spider-Man’s Avi Arad credited as producers.
