Safe in Our World has launched Mental Health Star Accreditation, which awards companies that meet its criteria with an endorsement from the mental health charity.

Launched on August 19, 2025, Mental Health Star Accreditation is the first accreditation of its kind specifically tailored to the games industry, and has been created by experts working at the intersection of game development and mental health.

In a press release announcing the accreditation, Safe in Our World said it has been “designed with flexibility and scalability in mind,” and has been “made to fit the needs of the wide variety of companies in gaming.”

For companies that apply for accreditation, the process begins with a company-wide audit of mental health policies, practices, culture, and sentiment. Safe in Our World then provides the company with a full report, covering what they’re doing well and recommendations for improvement.

Following this report, if a company meets the criteria, it will receive one of three tiers of endorsement from the charity: Dedicated, Accomplished, or Outstanding.

Mental Health Star Accreditation lasts for up to three years and includes annual check-ins, support, and a media kit containing assets companies can display on their websites and social media.

This accreditation is available to companies across the globe, with prices starting at £1,000 ($1352) for the three-year certification and the cost scaled based on the organisation’s size.

Companies that don’t meet the criteria for endorsement, however, will receive a thorough and detailed report from Safe in Our World, along with practical advice and resources to help improve. They can then resubmit “whenever they feel ready.”

Whether you meet the criteria or not, the entire process is “completely confidential,” Safe in Our World confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz, “but accredited companies are more than welcome to promote their results.”

“We know a formal review of practices and procedures can feel a little bit like putting your company under the microscope,” Sky-Tunley Stainton, Safe In Our World’s partnerships and training Manager, said.

“All results are confidential, and this is a judgment-free process. There’s really no better way to demonstrate your commitment to a safe and healthy workplace and industry.”
