Just over an hour ago at the time of writing, Nintendo kicked off the first of its two Treehouse: Live presentations focusing on the Switch 2.

While the games are the main focal point of today’s presentation – we’ve already had a deeper look into console launch title Mario Kart World, which gave us a better understanding of how its Grand Prix and Free Roam modes work – there is one comment that is dominating the live chat: “Drop the price.”

Nintendo Switch 2 Hands-On Preview: Mario Kart World Impressions & More! Watch on YouTube

As you can see in the screenshots below, the price of both the console itself and Switch 2 games is a clear bone of contention among viewers.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is due to be released on 5th June, retailing £395.99. A bundle including Mario Kart World will also be available, retailing at £429.99. In isolation, Mario Kart World will retail for £74.99 for a physical copy, or £66.99 digitally.

Since the reveal, there has been online uproar at the console’s pricing. However, as Ed laid out earlier, if we take into consideration inflation over the last eight years, the Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle works out cheaper in the UK than the original Switch with a copy of Breath of the Wild did back in 2017.

Our Tom has already taken the upcoming console for a spin. You can read his thoughts on his time with the Switch 2 in Eurogamer’s feature: Nintendo Switch 2 hands-on reveals a proper generational upgrade, though its biggest new idea remains unproven.
