It hasn’t even begun airing yet, but The Last of Us season two is already breaking records.

According to figures from Warner Bros Discovery (via Deadline), the most recent trailer for The Last of Us’ second season managed to clock up more than 158m global views across platforms in the first three days.

As noted by the publication, these numbers have set a new record for HBO and Max originals.

The latest The Last of Us trailer, which you can see above, is said to be outperforming previous teasers by “a margin of at least” 160 percent.

Meanwhile, episodes in the first season of The Last of Us are currency averaging 32 million viewers across platforms in the US. “That’s about four times the same-day audience of the season one finale, which set a record for same-day viewership with 8.2m across platforms,” Deadline reports.

The second season of The Last of Us is set to debut next month, and will comprise seven episodes, with one of those episodes being “quite big” in length. It will not cover the entirety of The Last of Us Part 2, with subsequent episodes expected to wrap up the narrative.

Returning cast members include Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Gabriel Luna as Tommy and Rutina Wesley as Maria. New faces for season two, meanwhile, include Kaitlyn Dever as Abby and Joe Pantoliano as Eugene, with a role that has been expanded upon from the game in the style of the first season’s award winning Bill and Frank episode.

Earlier this month, Dever spoke more about her role as The Last of Us’ Abby, stating she wants “to do this character justice and make the fans proud” on the second season’s debut.
