United Arab Emirates-based publisher and developer Red Dunes Games has announced a multi-year collaboration with Acquire Corp., the veteran Japanese studio behind long-running series like Tenchu and Way of the Samurai.

The companies will collaborate on original intellectual properties, promising to combine the craftsmanship of Acquire with a “bold, global creative vision”.

The first three projects between the pair were discussed in the announcement. There’s Project Tremor, a game with city-shaking kaiju battles, Project Umbra, which features dark fantasy ‘hunts’, and Project Shadowcar, a spy thriller.

These are all global premium releases for console and PC, with world premieres planned for events like Tokyo Game Show.

Acquire most recently developed the RPG Mario & Luigi: Brothership for Nintendo Switch, and was acquired by FromSoftware owner Kadokawa Corporation in 2024.

Red Dunes Games was unveiled in September 2024, and hasn’t launched a game yet. It has a slate of titles set to be released, including puzzle adventure Princess of the Water Lilies and Metroidvania game Zozo and the Lost Dreams.

“Acquire is a legendary studio with a deep creative legacy, and we are honored to work with them to build the next wave of original games,” said Red Dunes Games CEO and creative director Sultan Darmaki.

“This partnership is a reflection of our belief that the future of gaming lies in global collaboration, where stories cross borders, and innovation knows no region.”

Similar allusions to the ‘global’ focus of the collaboration were made in Acquire’s statement announcing the partnership.

“As Acquire, a studio that has long valued originality from Japan in game development, we are thrilled to have found a wonderful partner in Red Dunes Games and embark on a bold new global challenge together,” said CEO Takuma Endo.

“We’ve always believed in the power of originality. Now, with Red Dunes, we’re building something truly international.”
